DATING WEBSITES: AWKWARD… JUST AWKWARD

Setting: Cookout this summer. A man says hello to me, we chit chat for a few. Nothing to major and keep it moving.

I go home and check my dating website inbox and it’s a message from him- the guy that was just in my face at the cookout! Umm awkward.

So back in the spring, I decided that I would try online dating. I figured that all the folks at work do it, so why shouldn’t I try it? So I did just that. I posted my profile on a popular and legitimate black dating site. I even paid $25 a month. I even convinced myself that there is no difference in meeting people online than there is in person. I even went out on a few dates. I even found that ONLINE DATING SUX! And sux for real.

For one: I have been spotted by too many men that I used to date online. Talk about embarrassing. I would rather have my grandmother catch me combing the aisles of a sex shop then to have an ex-boyfriend find me online. I’ve been spotted on the metro by guys who “recognize” me as well. I became the wrong kind of local celebrity.

For two: There are two types of men who choose online dating. A) The Hoe. B.) The Nerd or Socially Awkward. Both are the worst type to encounter. Yes there are few exceptions, but not too many. The exceptions are:

1) normal/good guy type (the type I had planned on meeting)

2) the fresh out of jail type

3) the “separated” with 5 kids type.

For thrice: The dates I went on were good dates with genuinely good guys. They didn’t catch my interest too much, but that’s just me. Finicky FeFe you may call me.

For quatro: The pool of online dating is so vast that you constantly have to say yes, or say no to the people that are interested. It takes a lot of work.

I’ve decided that it’s not for me, but it sure did leave me with some stories to tell. My advice for you is, try it. You may just like it….. or not.
